🏄‍♂️Spring Break:

We’re staying at home this year. We were going to take a road trip but decided to rest and relax at home instead. Which means I’m not getting a lot of work done on my school or personal projects. Just means I’m going to have to double down next week and really work my ass off.

After two weeks of temperatures rising, snow melting and roads drying I bought my kid rollerblades, hoping she could try them out this week. Then it snowed again. They are currently gathering dust in a closet until the weather improves.

💻 Work Stuff:

  • I’m still working on Fictionist Media Inc.

  • I set up a Patreon page and a Substack page. Both will offer the exact same content, but not everyone wants to use Substack and not everyone wants to use Patreon. Basically I’ll be doing copy and pasting the same content from one service to the other.

  • I also updated my Wattpad and WEBTOON profiles. Things will eventually find their way there, but the stories and comics will appear on Substack and Patreon first.

  • I shared my first chapter of The Upstairs Neighbour on Chuck Palahniuk’s Plot Spoiler and sudden had an additional 30 views and a couple of supportive comments on it. School is done for me in one week, so I may continue the story on my Fictionist Media Substack, or perhaps I’ll stick with Wattpad. I’m still undecided there.

  • I am going to start posting a daily comic on Webtoon. It won’t be anything fancy, it’s going to be quick, rough and made over my morning coffee, which is why I’ll be calling them Morning Coffee Dailies. Some people do elaborate illustrations and call them “Warm up sketches.” This will just be “warm up comics” to get my creative day started.

🤪Fun Stuff:

  • My daughter has been obsessing over Dungeons & Dragons. She is still about six years too young play an actual campaign, but on Wednesday morning we took her to a game shop to pick out dice and a miniature. We’re going to try to run a really small campaign with her, and basically dumb the rules down enough that she can still have fun with the game and not be bored stupid.

  • Since I am participating in a campaign for the first time in seven years, I got myself some dice, paint and a miniature as well. The plan is to spend Friday painting miniatures. We’ll see how that goes.

📰 This Week’s Headlines:

  • It is pretty sad that Dyson has identified a need for us to protect ourselves from noise and air pollution. I’m not opposed to the idea of wearing a mask all the time. I’ve had a lot of practice over the past two years, but I would rather more work be done to clean the air and reduce noise levels that could damage hearing. But that would take too much effort and money, so let’s all wear noise canceling air filter masks. This device looks ridiculous, but when I think back to last summer, I would have killed to have a device like this to help with my allergies. I’m waiting to see how much this will cost in Canadian dollars. If I have another summer like last year, I may just shell out whatever they ask of me.

📺 This Week’s Watchlist:

  • Cowboy Bebop(Netflix): Years ago a friend of mine was hellbent on forcing me to watch an anime called Cowboy Bebop. I couldn’t be bothered. Almost two decades later there is a live action version on Netflix and I am obsessed. I’m still not going to bother with the anime.

  • Moon Knight(Disney+): I never thought I’d see the day Marvel made a Moon Knight series. Yet here we are. I’m not 100% sure if the story is based on the Warren Ellis/Declan Shalvey series, but I’m pretty sure the costumes are.

📖 This Week’s Reading List:

  • Nancy Drew - The Secret of the Old Clock by Carolyn Keene: My daughter is getting old enough for chapter books, so I have been reading her a chapter a night of this Nancy Drew book. I am hoping to kickstart a love of mysteries.

  • Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir: I started reading this one as research for a sci-fi story I am trying to write. I finished the first draft before I was halfway done reading this. I was a little surprised by some of the similarities. While Weir went further into the science, I chose to go more into the fictional side of things.
