June 10 | 22°C 🌒 | DAY 440 @ 🏡

I now have a degree. I currently hold a three year BA in English and Filmmaking.

I’m currently halfway through my 4th year. By the end of summer I will have met the basic requirements to graduate with a four year BA in English with a minor in Theatre & Film or Rhetoric & Communications. There is a very good chance I will come back and get that four year BA so I can get my GPA a little higher and apply for my MA in Cultural Studies.

I’m starting to feel like a professional student, but I am happy I at least have one degree I can fall back on if I need to get a job this fall, which I might do if I can’t lineup 15 credit hours this fall. Check out the Facebook and Twitter posts below!👇

I have two classes wrapping up this Monday and two more starting this Thursday. The two that are wrapping up have final assignments/exams being assigned on Monday morning, so it is going to be a busy week. Six weeks after that, I will be done school for the summer, or possibly forever depending on how the fall pans out. Either way, I’ll have about six weeks in late July and August to work on some creative projects. Right now I’m thinking of doing some YouTube videos, mostly because I can use the skills I picked up in school and put those English and Filmmaking majors towards a creative portfolio.

If I don’t end up going back to school I have three goals to accomplish in the next 12 months:

  • Short Film: I need to revise the script again and redo my budget, but I’d like to film Séance and release it the way in which I originally intended. I guess I’ll have to change the name, but it was never intended to be a comic. COVID-19 shut us down, so that comic was the only way I was able to tell the story, but I had to change a lot to make it work as a comic, so it’ll be nice to finally shoot it the way it was meant to be seen, and then I can submit it to festivals as proof of what I can do with a small budget.

  • Novel/Novella: For one of my creative writing classes I had to write the first chapter of a novel, so that’s what I did. I then revised the hell out of it, got peer feedback and revised it again. I really enjoy what I wrote and would like to finish the story. I need to rethink the rest of the story, so I’m not sure how long it will end up being, but at the very least I am confident that I can self-publish it as a novella.

  • Comic Anthology: As much as I complain about Séance being turned into a comic, it reignited my love of making comics. I have a lot of ideas for short comics, and would love to collect them into an anthology.

If I can’t get back to school in the fall, I am pretty confident that I can tackle two of those three projects over the next 12 months. I just need to keep myself busy.
